A photograph is what makes a military plaque personal. Most foundries treat a portrait as a premium upgrade — commonly $1,950 to $3,300 on top of the plaque. We include it.

We work from whatever you have. A formal service portrait, a scanned print from the 1940s, a snapshot in the field. Our artists render it into textured bronze relief, raised from the plaque face alongside the branch seal, unit insignia and citation text.

Plaques start at $500 with the portrait, emblems and layout artwork included.

What We Can Work From

Photo quality matters less than people expect. A sharp modern portrait gives the most control, but we routinely work from creased prints, newspaper clippings and low-resolution scans — the relief is sculpted by hand, not traced automatically, so an artist compensates for what the source lacks.

Where no usable photograph survives, we can work from a description and a service record, or render the unit insignia and decorations instead of a face.

Emblems, Medals and Flag Backgrounds

A portrait rarely stands alone. Service branch seals, unit and squadron insignia, rank devices, campaign ribbons and individual decorations can all be cast into the same plaque, and a United States flag is a common background treatment behind the portrait.

Multiple emblems on one plaque cost nothing extra. A career that spanned two branches can carry both seals.

Historic and Archival Photographs

Aviation and unit heritage projects usually start with an archival image — a crew in front of an aircraft, a ship's commissioning photograph, a wartime portrait held by the family for eighty years.

We can cast the aircraft or vessel in line relief beside the portrait, with tail markings or hull numbers correct to the unit. See our WWII pilot and aviation memorial work for examples.

Is there really no charge for the photograph?

Correct. Portrait relief, seals, insignia and layout artwork are included in the plaque price. Most foundries quote a bas-relief portrait as a separate $1,950 to $3,300 line item.

What resolution photograph do you need?

Send the best you have. We work from old prints and scans routinely — the relief is sculpted by an artist, so a soft original is not a barrier.

Can you show us the portrait before casting?

Yes. We supply a proof for approval before anything is poured, and there is no charge for revisions at that stage.

Can we order a small replica for the family?

Yes. Smaller matching replicas of the main plaque are a common addition for families and command staff.
